During this year’s alumni elections, Harvard graduates elected seven individuals to the University’s Board of Overseers and six to the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) board of directors. The newly appointed Overseers will start their roles on May 29, while the HAA directors will begin on July 1.
Five new members were chosen for six-year terms on the Board of Overseers. They include Arti Garg, Teresa Hillary Clarke, Nadine Burke Harris, Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena, and Philip L. Harrison. Additionally, Salvo Arena and Clive Chang were elected to fill the remaining terms of former members Sylvia Mathews Burwell and Vikas Sukhatme.
The election saw 31,818 ballots cast by Harvard degree holders. The Board of Overseers, established in 1642, is one of Harvard’s two main governing bodies and is responsible for evaluating the quality of the University’s programs and advising on strategic initiatives. Six new HAA directors were also elected for three-year terms. The new directors are Allison Charney Epstein, Mia Esther Alpert, Jeffrey H. Tignor, Jimmy Biblarz, Medha Gargeya, and David G. Lefer. A total of 32,867 ballots were submitted in this election.
The HAA board focuses on fostering community and engagement among Harvard alumni worldwide. It has prioritized outreach to recent graduates and promoting inclusive communities in its recent efforts.
